Analysis of all textile materials from the collection of liturgical vestments from the church of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on island Lokrum

kesovia miguelTextile materials can be classified by type and its date and place of origin often can be identified. But in the absence of existing documentation and original marks, giving marker or date, textiles must be determined based on its technical features and style. This non-destructive analysis has numerous applications in textile conservation-restoration (as documentation), as well as in art history (in terms of citing professional terms in literature or in museum catalogs). The results can direct and determine the appropriate method of conservation and restoration for textile objects, while a thorough documentation of present materials may allow its reproduction. This presentation will cover a detailed analysis of structural parameters, i.e. structural and technological analysis of fabrics (of embroidery and weaving) used in liturgical vestments from the church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the island of Lokrum. Based on the analysis and combination of weaving, different materials and effects on historical textiles will be determined with professional terms according to the regulations of the international oraganisation C.I.E.T.A. Similar defined regulations do not exist in Croatia, which only emphasizes the need for its creation or acquisition (and translation).
